American couple on their first journey to Europe – Montenegro as a honeymoon destination
Coming from American to European continent for the first time, Chris and Jaden have chosen Montenegro to be the special destination for their romantic honeymoon. This young couple from the USA have come to Europe in October, travelled around the smallest Balkan country, and shared some of their impressions with the readers of Primorski portal.
„We searched the best European places to visit on the internet and Montenegro was highly ranked on the list of attractive and affordable countries. We were attracted by small coastal towns and beautiful nature. We started watching a lot of videos on YouTube and learning about it, and that is how we decided that Montenegro is the right place for our special journey“, says Chris.
„We absolutely love Montenegro. The videos and photos are incredible, but they do not come even close to doing it justice. When you are here everything is 10 times more amazing than you could imagine. As soon as we came, we were amazed. This is our first time in Europe. We have immediately felt welcomed and safe“, says Jaden.
„We feel much safer here than in a lot of US cities. We walk around at night, which is great. Everything is really beautiful, people are kind and friendly, and the food is amazing. We truly feel blessed“, adds Chris.
The newlywed couple has planned to stay in Montenegro for 16 days.
„We have seen the Old Town Budva which is very beautiful. There are many beautiful beaches in the area. Sveti Stefan is probably one of the most beautiful places we have visited. We had dinner there while the sun was setting. It was the most amazing view and it was one of the best days in our lives“, the two Americans share their thoughts.

They have visited the Old Town Bar on the excursion organized by travel agency AVE Tours. They have shared their impressions with us after the unforgettable tour leading from the Old Town Bar, through the canyons towards the village with an amazing waterfall in the nature.
„When the guide said that life in the old town had lasted for centuries, I made a comparison – the Old town Bar is older than the state we live in. It makes you happy just to touch the walls with your hands. It’s priceless. The history of the Old town Bar is amazing. We don’t have anything similar in the USA – there are no old buildings, ruins and the like. And then, the most interesting sight there – the Old olive tree. I hadn’t known something like that even existed. It is incredible to see a tree that is more than 2 000 years old and is still producing olives. The fact that this natural monument has been well preserved and taken care of shows a lot of really amazing respect for nature and what it represents for people here. The guide told us that people can even get married under the tree“.

While Jaden described her impressions, Chris shared that the most interesting sight he saw was the unforgettable panoramic view from the citadel towards the mountains and the sea.
„We went through the canyon, up in the mountain and we came to rest, full of impressions on the well-organized tour. The waterfalls might be my favorite place, actually. You come from an urban place and here you have your own peace of paradise. It is a true vacation. The water is so fresh. The rope-swing above the natural pool is super fun. I’ve jumped in a few times and tried to convince Jaden to do it too, but she wouldn’t“, says Chris.
„It was like a dream come true. You see the pictures of the waterfall with bright blue water and then you are there in person. The way the canopy and trees make cover over you, you feel like you are in a little paradise and it feels perfect. We were alone in the natural pool and we got to have a private secluded waterfall moment which was incredible“, shares Jaden and adds that October is the perfect time to visit.
„We thought this was the end of the trip, but instead, we had a picnic in nature, just above the waterfall. We enjoyed the degustation of Montenegrin national cuisine“, says Chris.
During their stay in Montenegro, the couple from the USA plan to spend a couple of days in Kotor, to see the beauty of Boka Bay, the old town Kotor and visit neighboring Dubrovnik for a day.
„We like the way of life in Montenegro. The pace is much slower than in the USA. Back home everything is very rushed – go, go, go, people don’t have time to just be. People in Montenegro work as well, but they know how to enjoy“, says Jaden.
„We are grateful and appreciative for everyone that welcomed us warmly. We have experienced the culture and the lifestyle here. We might be acting like weird tourists, but we love it“, she adds.
„If you ask me why someday we would like to have our own real estate in Montenegro, the answer is the mindset and respect of life. People in Montenegro aren’t rushed and under the pressure like in Oregon. It is really nice to live without the pressure“, concluded Chris.
